However, this is not true.

πŸ”Ή If it was, that would mean that by avoiding carbs, you could eat as much fat and protein you’d like and you wouldn’t gain any weight. This is unfortunately only a fairytale.

πŸ”Ή What actually is causing weight gain is staying in a calorie surplus over time.

Gaining weight works very similar to weight loss; Eating in a calorie surplus (calories over your maintenance level) will lead to weight gain, and calorie deficit (calories lower than your maintenance level) will lead to weight loss.

πŸ”Ή BUT!

This won’t happen over a day or two (either weight loss or weight gain). One day of eating in calorie surplus won’t lead to putting on massive weight, the same way as if you’d eat in a calorie deficit one day wont lead to instant weight loss.
